How To Join The Waiting List

Please read in full to understand RVR’s 2024 registration process. The waiting list to become a participant is estimated to be over 2 years.

To join the waiting list, you must complete the actions outlined below. Acting quickly will put you higher on the waiting list and means you would be contacted sooner concerning any opportunities, either for a permanent spot or as a substitute rider/driver.

In order to be on the waiting list for a substitute or permanent lesson time, all 5 steps are required:

  1. Print, complete and sign the “Registration” form.
  2. Print, complete and sign the “Participant Liability and Photo Release/Waiver” form.
  3. Print and have the “Medical History & Physician’s Statement” form completed and signed by a licensed medical provider. If this will significantly delay your response, please send in the other 2 forms and $50 check ASAP. This will prioritize you on the waitlist. The medical must be received within 60 days to keep your place on the waiting list.
  4. Include a check for $50 to River Valley Riders for the non-refundable registration fee for 2024.
  5. Mail all forms and the $50 check to River Valley Riders, 8362 Tamarack Village, Suite 119-440, Woodbury, MN 55125.

You will be contacted about availability based on when this paperwork is received.

Financial Aid Program

RVR offers partial financial assistance in an effort to make equine-assisted services available to all participants who would benefit from the program. Financial aid is granted based on financial need.

Helmets

RVR does not provide individually-assigned helmets for each rider.

We have a pool of helmets that will be shared by participants. As an alternative, riders may purchase their own helmet. All helmets are required to be ASTM/SEI approved for equestrian use and no more than 5 years old. NO BIKE HELMETS.

Suggestions for purchasing personal helmets:

Their experienced staff will help ensure correct style and sizing. The Ovation Schooler style is a popular helmet with a wide range of sizes and colors. $74.99 and up. St. Croix Saddlery will provide a 10% discount upon request (limit to 1 item per month).

Fleet Farm

In the Equine section of the store, Fleet Farm has a limited selection of Troxel helmets. We recommend the Spirit or the Rebel because they are adjustable for the best fit. $74.99-$98.99. Based on our experience, we suggest avoiding the Sport or Liberty models.

Before going to store to try on, watch this video to help in fitting.
For more information, visit Troxel Helmets.

Document when you purchase/first use the helmet as is can be used for 5 years. Without documentation of purchase/first use, the manufacture date of the helmet (on a label inside the helmet) will be used.
